Saratoga Lake Fishing Report: 06/11/2023 at 09:11 am

Nate Galimore Fishing

I could tell it was a chain pickerel by the way it fought. They are known for their powerful runs and acrobatic leaps. After a few minutes, I finally landed the fish. It was a 22 inch chain pickerel! I was exciting!  I took a few pictures, and then I released it back into the lake. It was a great day of fishing.

I was fishing a weedy shoreline with a Keitech softbait rigged weedless. I was casting and retrieving the bait slowly, working it through the vegetation.

Additional tips for catching Chain Pickerel:
Welcome to Saratoga Lake, where Chain Pickerel fishing is a popular activity for anglers. As we head into the summer season, it’s important to consider the current weather conditions and the structure of the lake when planning your fishing trip.

Over the next three days, we can expect some scattered thunderstorms with temperatures ranging from 75-85 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s important to keep an eye on the weather forecast and plan accordingly. If there is lightning or heavy rain, it’s best to stay off the water for safety reasons.

When it comes to fishing for Chain Pickerel on Saratoga Lake, it’s important to consider the weed growth in the lake. Some common weeds include Coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum), Canadian Waterweed (Elodea canadensis), and Eurasian Watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum). These weeds tend to grow from the shore up to about 16 feet deep. Fishing around these areas can be productive as they provide cover and food sources for Chain Pickerel.

When selecting lures for Chain Pickerel, it’s best to choose something that mimics their natural prey such as small minnows or crayfish. A good lure size would be around 3-4 inches in length with a bright color like chartreuse or orange. Spinnerbaits and jigs are also effective lures for catching Chain Pickerel.

In conclusion, when planning your fishing trip for Chain Pickerel on Saratoga Lake, it’s important to consider the weather forecast, weed growth, and structure of the lake. Fishing around weed beds and underwater ledges can be productive areas for finding Chain Pickerel. Remember to choose lures that mimic their natural prey and have a bright color to attract their attention. Happy fishing!
